Freedom fighter Vinayak Damodar Savarkar’s grandson Satyaki Ashok Savarkar on Thursday made serious allegations, saying the Pune police had delayed the investigation into his criminal defamation complaint against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. After the police asked a local court for more time to submit a report on the complaint on April 2, he told reporters that the investigation should be expedited.
It is noteworthy that Satyaki Savarkar filed a complaint in April last year, accusing Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of making false allegations about the late freedom fighter in a speech in London in March 2023. Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Satyaki Savarkar said the court had earlier asked Visharambagh police to verify the evidence presented by it and submit a report by May 27. In such cases the court usually asks for a preliminary investigation and then decides whether there is sufficient cause. to file a first information report (FIR). Satyaki said he has submitted a YouTube link of Rahul Gandhi’s speech in London as evidence. However, the investigation is pending with the police.
