His opponent, who came to Canada from Mexico at a very young age with his family seeking political asylum, is a strong grappler who has won medals at world championships.
He started aggressively and scored two takedowns in the first period to take a 4-0 lead.
But Sakshi fought back strongly in the second period, attacking and taking two points. He then brilliantly counterattacked and pinned his opponent’s shoulder to the mat for a pinfall to win the match.
Sakshi was thrilled with her performance and wanted to be on the victory lap around the bot area, very happy with the way she won the bot.
Earlier on Friday, wrestling matches at the Victoria Park Arena in Coventry were called off due to security concerns. The multiple Asian Championship winner from Rohtak, HACHIana parlayed his valuable experience into his third Commonwealth medal.
The veteran wrestler’s win has helped change old Indian conservative views on women’s participation in the sport, as she looks to improve on her previous CWG performances in 2014 and 2018, where she bagged silver and bronze medals respectively.
A bronze medalist at the Rio 2016 Olympics, he won a medal in the same color at this year’s Tunis ranking event. Yasser also participated in the Doku tournament.

Sakshi also won three bronze medals. He won silver at the Asian Championships in 2015, 2018 and 2019, and the 2017 edition in New Delhi.
He is a two-time Commonwealth Championship medalist, bronze in 2013 and gold in 2017.
India has 12 wrestlers in the CWG and the sport has historically been a big source of medals for the country.
