GUWAHATI: Thousands of sadhus participating in Ambubachi Mela staged a demonstration at the main gate of the Kamakhya temple on Tuesday, June 25. The protest was sparked by complaints of inadequate facilities provided to them during the festival.
The saints and the Babs expressed their frustration on several issues. Among them was Chocolate Baba, a well-known figure among the saints, who explained his grievances to GPlus, also on behalf of the others.

Speaking to GPlus, Chocolate Baba said, "Yesterday there were a lot of fake Babs, and the police didn’t let many real Babs go down to where they were. Some of them were arrested by the police, which upset Sadhu a lot."
The main concerns of the protesting martyrs included inadequate toilet facilities and lack of proper health checks, especially for the elderly. "Many sadhus did not get proper toilet facilities, so they protested against it," Chocolate Baba said, highlighting a significant issue facing the saints.

Another Baba, who has been studying at Ambubachi Mela for 16 years, said in a conversation with GPlus, "In Abbas many elderly people did not get health checkup facilities, so some of them got sick in this scorching heat. The lack of medical care for elderly Sadhus is a serious concern, especially in light of the harsh weather conditions."
In response to the protests, an official from the Ambubachi Committee of the Prichelana Ayog who spoke to GPlus said, "There are toilets on campus. But some of them faced difficulties because they have to come down. We understand the challenges and try to deal with everything from our end," said the clerk.
