The Trinamool Congress has fielded Bengali actress Sayoni Ghosh from Jeddaupur for the Lok Sabha elections. She constantly holds rallies, public meetings and interviews to ensure victory for herself and her party. Sioni recently praised the Prime Minister of Bengal, Mamata Banerjee. He praised the CM for handling the Sandashkali incident.
Clad in a blue cotton saree, the 31-year-old Trinamool Congress youth leader pinched herself to assure herself that she had indeed got the ticket from the Jadaopur Lok Sabha seat. He said it felt like coming home. He also expressed confidence that the Sandeshchali incident was handled well.
Sayoni said in an interview, ‘One incident in Sandashkhali will not change the perception of Mamata Banerjee in the minds of the women of the country. The fact that she is the only female head of the country. Along with this, it shows how Bengal believes in a woman to run the government.
Take all necessary actions
According to him, ‘The Prime Minister took all the necessary and decisive actions in the Sandashkali case. They set up grievance redressal camps, sent political delegations to appease people’s anger, initiated the process of returning land plots through DM offices and blockade offices and made all the necessary arrests.’
He further said, ‘Bengal Police has reached where ED and CBI have failed. Shahjahan could have been arrested earlier, if the case was not stuck in the High Court. The central agencies never raised these issues. In such a situation, who stopped them from arresting Sheikh? What happened in Sandashkhali is very unfortunate. I am not defending it in any way Anyway, but this issue is well handled.
There are 350 public meetings
On his entry into politics from the world of films, he said, “I have done three feature films in the last three years and addressed about 350 public meetings. I traveled the country and never gave people the impression that I was a comfortable leader.
Who is Sioni Ghosh?
Sayoni Ghosh joined TMC in February 2021. He is considered close to TMC General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee. In June 2021, he was appointed the president of the youth wing of the Trinamool Congress. Apart from Bengali films, Sioni Ghosh has worked in web series and web movies. She made her presence felt in TV series. Sioni Ghosh was born in Kolkata. He also completed his schooling in Kolkata.
The challenge is to save the seat
Sayoni Ghosh is facing the challenge to win Jadupur Lok Sabha seat. TMC has held this seat since 2009. TMC’s Kabir Semon won in 2009 and Dr. Saugata Roy won in 2014. In 2019, TMC fielded Mimi Chakraborty from this seat by playing the star card. The party then won the 2.95 lakh votes on the basis of Mimi’s popularity. TMC has placed its bet on Sioni Gash after Mimi’s desire to retire from politics. Out of the seven assembly constituencies in Jadaopur, six are controlled by the Trinamool Congress. One seat is with the Indian Secular Front.
