Delhi: The accused in the 2022 Delhi Red Fort attack case is a terrorist from Pakistan. The death penalty has been fixed for Mohammad Arif alias Ashpak. President Draupadi Murmu has rejected the amnesty request of the Pakistani terrorist. On November 3, 2022, the Supreme Court rejected Arif’s review petition, upholding the death sentence awarded to him in the case. After that he presented mercy to the President. Now President Draupadi Murmu has rejected his request.

2000, Attack on Gaer Goch on 22 December

On 22 December 2000, a terrorist attack took place on Delhi’s historic Red Fort. It was carried out by the Pakistani terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba. An Indian soldier and a civilian died on the spot in the incident. Another person later died in hospital without treatment.

Sitting in Srinagar and plotting an attack in Delhi

An attack on the Red Fort was hatched in the house of two conspirators in Srinagar. Arif entered illegally in 1999 along with three other LeT militants. On December 22, 2000 AD, three militants Abu Shad, Abu Bilal and Abu Haider attacked the Red Fort.

The terrorist Mohammad Arif was arrested after 4 days

Arif, a Pakistani national and outlawed Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant, was arrested by the Delhi police four days after the attack. Mohammad Arif alias Ashfaq was a Pakistani national who was found to have illegally entered Indian territory and was attacked. The soldiers of Abu Shad, Abu Bilal and Abu Haider were killed in the encounter.

Death sentence order by Delhi High Court

Arif was convicted of conspiring with other militants to carry out the attack, and was sentenced by a trial court to death in October 2005. The Delhi High Court and the Supreme Court upheld the decision in subsequent appeals.

Amnesty Petition is rejected by the President

On November 3, 2022, the Supreme Court dismissed the review petition filed by Arif. confirm the death sentence given to him in the case. Rashtrapati Bhavan has informed that Arif’s pardon application received on May 15 has been rejected.
