It can be said that the whole world now worships Lord Rama from Ayodhya’s Rama Mandir, which was consecrated a few months ago. Now the Ram Mandir Ratha Yatra will leave Chicago on Monday for 851 temples in 48 states, covering more than 8,000 miles in the next 60 days, organizers said Thursday.

The Rath, built on a Toyota Sienna van, will carry idols of Lord Rama, Sita, Lakshmana and Hanuman along with special prasad from Ram Mandir Ayodhya and Kalash of Prana Pratishta Pujit Akshat, said Amitabh Mittal, general secretary Vishwa Hindu Parishad of America, which organizes the Rath Yatra.
“The opening of Ram Mandir by Ayodhya has cheered the hearts of 1.5 billion Hindus worldwide and given new strength and faith. Mittal told news agency PTI that the countrywide Ratha Yatra will start on March 25 from Chicago, USA and will cover around 8000 miles, visiting 851 temples in USA and around 150 temples in Canada.

The Canadian section of this Ratha Yatra is organized separately by Vishwa Hindu Parishad of Canada. He will travel to more than 150 temples in Canada.
“The purpose of this Rath Yatra is awareness, education and empowerment of Hinduism,” said Tejal Shah of the Hindu Mandir Empowerment Council (HMEC), the apex body of all US temples. He said that the Yatra would give an opportunity to all Hindus to unite and participate, leading to the revival of Hindu ethos and religion.
“It is very important for us and especially for future generations to remain united and strong in the campaign to create awareness and spread Hinduism around the world,” said Shah.
This is the first time such a Rath Yatra has been organized in the United States
According to Mittal, several dozen volunteers have registered with the VHPA to help plan and organize the yatra. This is the first time in the United States that such a pilgrimage has been organized by the Hindu community, which takes a van to more than 800 temples in the United States.

The Rath Yatra will end in Sugar Grove, Illinois on April 23, the auspicious day of Hanuman Jayanti. Ratha Yatra covers not only all major temples but also minor temples. Temples that participated in the inauguration of Ram Mandir in the US in January will also get a certificate of participation.
“We appreciate their participation a lot and it will also be a form of gratitude for them,” said Tejal Shah.
