GUWAHATI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi , during a roundtable of CEOs during his visit to the US on September 23, outlined India’s ambitious plan to create 85,000 new research and development (R&D) personnel in the next one to two years.

Speaking at the roundtable, he highlighted the nation’s evolving role in the global technology sector, stressing that the country is increasing its 20% equity share in semiconductor design, and has also launched the ‘Design in India’ initiative to boost local innovation.
"India has a strong legal framework for the protection of intellectual property rights," Modi said, emphasizing the country’s commitment to fostering an environment conducive to technological growth.
He also touched on India’s recently enacted data protection law, which he believes will improve data governance and help businesses. Modi went on to reaffirm India’s leadership in artificial intelligence (AI), noting that the country is among the first to establish a comprehensive AI strategy.
Finally, he emphasized the need for a global digital governance model and advocated the use of watermarks to combat the spread of deep fake videos.
