“We will have engineers in the areas where we expect Storm Kathleen to have the greatest impact and our teams are on hand 24/7.

“The sooner we know about a power cut, the quicker we can get to work to restore supplies, so if you experience a power cut, let us know by calling the free national emergency helpline on 105.”

Here are SP Energy Networks tips for preparation:

  • Have the national 105 emergency helpline handy – it’s best to keep this pinned on the fridge or in the contacts on your mobile phone.
  • Battery storage or winding torch – leave this somewhere easily accessible so you can use the torch to check the fuse box and make your way around the house safely.
  • Beware of downed power lines – power lines may have fallen due to strong winds, so be careful when venturing out of your home. Do not go, and call 105 to report a downed power line
  • Your mobile phone is charged – charging your mobile means you can call the national 105 emergency helpline. It is also worth having an analogue phone as this does not run off the mains electricity supply.
