The Laval Police Department (SPL) arrested four teenagers after a series of threats were made against Laval secondary schools over the past few days.

The police said that the threats turned out to be pranks, but still required a lockdown and a large police presence. The schools involved are Poly-Jeunesse and Curé-Antoine-Labelle high schools in the northern end of Laval, which have faced “threatening comments” on three occasions in the past nine days.

“In order to ensure on-site security and to conduct multiple inspections, the SPL had to detain thousands of students,” the police said in a press release.

The four suspects out of ten who were arrested attend one of the schools involved, and may face charges. Two of them are still in custody as the investigation continues and the police do not rule out further searches and arrests.

Laval police are warning the public that such pranks can have serious consequences, regardless of age.

“The police service is also aware that calls of this type may cause concern among the public and cause a feeling of insecurity. Therefore, we would like to reiterate that steps have been taken in cooperation with the Center de services scolaires de Laval. To ensure follow-up and support for those affected by these incidents,” the statement said.
