Amidst all the rhetoric, the Congress on Thursday called the Centre’s claim a blatant lie.

Amit Shah’s statement is a complete lie – Jaishankar

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said that eight months after this issue was raised for the first time, the Modi government is now concocting stories to defend its inaction. Jairam Ramesh claimed that the Prime Minister started his rounds in May 2014 by talking big about cooperative federalism. Collaborative federalism is based on consensus, for which the Modi administration has shown incompetence.

“Creating controversy is an old habit of Prime Minister Modi-Home Minister Amit Shah”

Jairam Ramesh termed the ongoing rhetoric between the Karnataka government and the Center as confrontational federalism. Creating controversy and creating division is the skill of Prime Minister Modi and the Home Minister. As can be seen from the latest claim of Interior Minister Amit Shah. Jairam Ramesh said that out of 236 taluks of Karnataka, 223 are suffering the effects of drought, 123 have severe drought conditions.

Karnataka needs compensation of Rs 17,900 crore- Jayaram

Taking a dig at the central government, Jairam Ramesh said Karnataka needs Rs 17,900 crore as compensation and farmers’ crops worth Rs 35,000 crore have been destroyed. Till date, the Center has not released a single rupee to deal with this dire situation. According to him, Amit Shah claims that there was a delay in releasing the drought relief amount because the state government submitted it three months late. This statement of the Union Minister is a complete lie. The Karnataka government submitted a proposal for drought relief on 22 September 2023.
