Operation against electricity thieves in Rawalpindi Division, 994 accused arrested Achi-News

Rawalpindi (Newsdesk) 994 electricity thieves have been arrested in Rawalpindi while more than 88 million rupees have been recovered.

This was said by Commissioner Rawalpindi Engineer Division.

He said that since September 7, 2023, 1186 FIRs have been registered and all available resources are being used to prevent electricity theft.

He instructed the authorities to ensure 100% recovery of electricity theft in all areas of the department.

He ordered to complete all arrangements for power supply especially in Murree during Eid days.

He also directed that additional manpower should be deployed in Murree for the Eid holidays and a back-up plan should be prepared for uninterrupted power supply during the Eid holidays.

He said that the performance of Rawalpindi Division in anti-electric theft is the best in the province.

He said that special attention should be paid to commercial areas because there is a high risk of electricity theft.

He directed that all deputy commissioners of the department should ensure checking in their respective areas.

He ordered that electric heaters used in many hotels in Murree should also be checked.

The provincial government had directed to pay special attention to the feeders where there are heavy line losses, identify the power thieves and send them behind the bars.

Aamir Khattak said that there should be individual recovery from electricity thieves and an entire district or village should not be fined.

On the other hand, according to the police spokesperson, on the instructions of the Punjab Chief Minister, the Rawalpindi district police have also intensified the ongoing operation against electricity theft.

According to the police spokesperson, Rawalpindi district police registered 186 FIRs against electricity theft this year.

He said that more than 80 accused have been sent behind the bars.

He further said that 63 cases have been registered this week in the crackdown against electricity thieves, and the arrest of the accused involved in electricity theft will be ensured anyway.

The CPG further said that those involved in stealing power are national criminals who do not deserve any exemption.
