The central government has prepared a draft to curb the repeated unwanted calls and messages in the name of promoting various things. According to the draft prepared by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, if someone has not given consent to receive calls related to the promotion or sale of anything and still receives such calls or messages, then it will be considered as unsolicited business communication and the company or person making the call will be held responsible for it.
The goal of the ministry’s proposed new guidelines is to stop unwanted calls from unregistered telemarketers or private 10-digit numbers. The government’s proposed draft states that any promotional call or service message related to goods and services will be considered business communication. Personal communication has been kept out of this domain.
These guidelines were prepared by telecom companies and the telecom regulator, which aim to curb unwanted promotional calls. However, this does not include personal communication. The ministry sought suggestions from people on this draft guideline until July 21.
