Forest officials on Saturday arrested a poacher during a patrol of the Similipal Tiger Reserve (STR) in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district. The accused has been identified as Mangal Bensingh (43), a resident of Nuniyagoda village in the district. A forest official said on Sunday that the action was taken on the basis of confidential information. A team of foresters from the Chahala Wildlife Range patrolled the area near the Puragoda footpath. During this time it was revealed that several people entered STR’s main area with weapons. The team chased the intruders and managed to capture Mangal. A bow, three arrows and a bag full of cooked rice were caught in his possession.
