Suspension orders have been issued to thousands of high school students in Waterloo Region for having outdated vaccination records.

Waterloo Public Health Region has now issued 6,819 suspension orders to local high school students under the School Pupil Immunization Act, which has not been enforced since 2019.

Those students have until 30 April at 4:30pm to submit updated records or a valid exception. If they don’t, they will face suspension from May 1.

Less than two weeks ago on March 27, almost 3,000 elementary school students in Waterloo Region were suspended from school for having out-of-date vaccination records.

As of April 8, just over 400 elementary students remain suspended.
