According to a new global analysis, more than a billion adults and children around the world are currently obese.
According to a recent report published on February 29 by the leading British medical journal The Lancet, approximately 880 million (88 million) adults and 159 million (159 million) children are currently living with obesity.
Between 1990 and 2022, the stunting rate among children and young people worldwide increased fourfold, from 1.7 to 6.9 percent among girls and from 2.1 to 9.3 percent among boys.
The study also found that the rate in adults had more than doubled during the same period. Similarly, this rate increased from 8.8 to 18.5 per cent among women and from 4.8 per cent to 14 per cent among men.
