With heat increasing in southern Quebec, Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) issued a special weather statement for Montreal and the surrounding area on Tuesday.
The city is clinging to a warm air mass early in the first week of June, resulting in seasonal temperatures and humidex values that could reach 35 to 38 before Thursday.
ECCC is reminding people to reduce their heat risk as the unseasonably warm temperatures are expected to continue through Thursday morning.
“Everyone can be at risk from heat. Drink plenty of water regularly, even before you feel thirsty, to reduce the risk of dehydration. Thirst is not a good indicator of dehydration,” the ECCC weather bulletin said.
Along with the beautiful and sunny conditions, on Monday the day’s high of 30 degrees Celsius was recorded. Although it is above the seasonal high of 22 Celsius, it is not a record breaker.
The highest temperature recorded on this day was in 1919, where the record for the day was 33.3 degrees Celsius.
Tuesday will be a mix of sun and clouds, with a high of 31 C, but with the humidex it will feel like 34. The UV index will be as high as 7, a reminder to apply that sunscreen even on somewhat cloudy days.
Midweek we will continue to exceed the seasonal temperatures, when the mercury will rise to 29 C and partly cloudy skies.
That all changes on Thursday when a system is expected to bring about 25 millimeters of rain and isolated thunderstorms are also expected.
The daytime high will be 24 C.
Friday calls for a 60 percent chance of showers with a seasonal high of 22 degrees Celsius.
F1 fans looking forward to the upcoming qualifying races and main event on Saturday and Sunday will want to pack their rain gear.
At this point, we estimate that 10 millimeters of rain fell on each of those days, and the daytime high is 22 C.
