The Sahar police filed a case against an employee of the Metro Shoes showroom at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport for selling shoes to customers without issuing receipts and defrauding the company of Rs 17 lakh.

According to a complaint by a company executive, the 24-year-old outlet manager, Zakir Zuber Sheikh, was employed from 2021 for a year. Management determined that customers often did not ask for receipts, especially when paying in cash due to flight time constraints.

The stock assessment team was unable to conduct audits during the first few months of the store due to the ticketing issue, resulting in a gap of Rs 17 lakh between the stock of shoes sold and the account.

Fictitious sales, bounced checks issued by an employee

When questioned, Shaikh did not provide a satisfactory explanation for this difference. It was later revealed that Sheikh had appointed a non-existent sales manager, Muhammad Waris Sheikh, and fabricated sales. Further investigation revealed that between May 2022 and April 2023, Sheikh made many sales without creating receipts or accounts and kept the cash payments for himself.

When confronted with the company, Shaikh promised to refund the entire amount and issued four bounced cheques. The company later reported this to the police. A police official confirmed the registration of the case against Sheikh under sections 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating and dishonestly causing delivery of property) of the Indian Penal Code.
