Myers, who was part of the motorcycle-riding cooking duo with co-host King, died in February at the age of 66 following a battle with cancer.

In his memory, motorcyclists rode in a caravan to raise money for cancer research, starting on Sunday in Beverley Market Place in East Yorkshire.

The two-and-a-half-hour ride, organized by Biker Escorts East Yorkshire, passed through various Yorkshire towns and villages, including Settrington, Scagglethorpe and Pickering, before finishing in the seaside town of Scarborough.

The team had expected about 3,000 riders, but King posted a video message on X, formerly Twitter, on Monday saying there were about double that.

He said: “Hello everyone… I have to say a huge thank you because what happened at the Memorial Ride-out for Dave yesterday was nothing short of amazing. 6,000 of you turned out in solidarity and love and affection for bikers but especially Dave.

“And it ended in Scarborough and I hear you had a very good time, and Dave would have loved it.

“So from the bottom of my heart, Lily (Liliana Orzak), his wife, and his family, his close friends, and I (want to say) a huge, massive thank you.

“We were all very excited about it and please don’t think for a second it didn’t go unnoticed. Love to you all, so glad you had a lovely day.

Born in Barrow-in-Furness, Myers’ final series with King continued to air on BBC Two after his death.

He was also known for competing on Strictly Come Dancing and for the cookbooks he published with King.
