Varanasi: This year, the heat has intensified. Because of this the situation of Ganga in Varanasi is very sad. Compared to June last year, this year, the Ganga has dropped another step, ie about 15 feet. The situation is so bad that the middle Ganga as well as the banks of the Ganga are becoming sandy. Even, there are sandbars built on the Ganges gates on an embankment. This is not the end, sand and silt are accumulating again in the feeding areas of the Ganges. The scene is seen for the first time. And scientists are surprised to see this situation. They claim the situation is getting worse. It’s hard to believe. But it needs to be stopped immediately, otherwise everything will be over.

This situation is seen in more than forty ghats of Ganga in Varanasi. Sand and silt has accumulated from Scindia Ghat, Sakka Ghat, Lalita Ghat to Dashashwamedh Ghat and from Pandey Ghat to Shibala Ghat. Aussi Ghat is already almost covered with sand and mud. However, most of the sand and mud accumulated at Dasashwamedh Ghat. The situation is so pathetic that tourists and enthusiasts have to descend down the steps of the ghat and stand in the sand and mud to take pictures.

It doesn’t stop here, tourists and enthusiasts go on the boat by digging the sand. In front of Dashashwamedh ghat, due to the green vegetation, a sandy beach of about one and a half kilometers has been formed. Again between Gai Ghat and Rajghat there is an accumulation of sand 2 km wide. A long sandbank has also been created along the very middle of the Ganga just before the ghat. And along with it, the water has also reduced. This scene is terrifying in everyone’s mind. It goes without saying that the direction of the situation is not very good.

According to Ganga scientists, the biggest reason for the uninterrupted flow of the Ganga is the dams that store the water of the Ganges. In fact, all the government’s efforts to clean the Ganga are failing. BHU Ganga Research Center Professor Dr. BD Tripathi said that the STP plant has been constructed. A sewage treatment plant has also been constructed. Everything works. But as the water level of the Ganges is falling, pollution is also increasing. Due to lack of water in the Ganga, the drains flowing into the Ganga add to the pollution.

In the last 10 years, the government has implemented several schemes for the purification of the Ganges. But all these efforts are mitigated by the ever-increasing scarcity of water in the Ganges. In this situation, if the uninterrupted flow of Ganga is not taken care of, all the plans will fail. In this situation, along with the purification of the Ganga, the uninterrupted flow of the Ganga needs to be looked at.
