The BJP’s Lok Sabha candidate from Manipur, Thaunaojam Basant Kumar Singh, says the BJP wants a united Manipur and no community in the state will be given the right to separate governance. Basant Kumar is also the Law Minister of Manipur and is the BJP candidate from the Inner Manipur seat in the Lok Sabha elections. Basant Kumar said the Congress is nowhere in the contest and the BJP will register a comfortable victory.
“BJP saved Manipur”
Basant Singh said that ‘BJP has saved Manipur for future generations’. On the demand for a separate administration by the Kuki-Ju community following the violence in the state, he said: ‘We are in favor of a united Manipur as a party and a government. Any kind of distribution will not be allowed. We have been living this way for hundreds of years. There was a war between France and Germany during World War II, but today both are close allies.
Basant Singh said that people accept that if Manipur is progressing on the path of peace, only BJP can provide it that path. Congress has failed miserably. Even when the Congress government was in power in Manipur for 15 years, many unnatural deaths occurred. More than 1800 cases are currently under investigation. Basant Singh belongs to the Meitai category and is an ex-officer of the Indian Police Service. His father Thaunaojam Chauba Singh was also the Union Minister of State in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government. Currently Basant Singh is the MLA from Nambol seat of Vishnupur district in the state.
The opposition accuses the BJP government of mishandling the Manipur crisis. Basant Singh said about these accusations that the government intervened in Manipur at the right time, because of which the situation in the country improved and the public also knows it. Our priority is to establish peace in the country. The BJP is contesting from Manipur’s Inner Imphal seat, but the party has extended support to its ally Naga Peoples Front in the Outer Manipur seat.
