A century by vice-captain Smriti Mandana and a magical bowling attack by spinner Asha Shubhana helped the Indian women’s team to a 143-run win over South Africa in the first ODI at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday. This gave them a 1-0 lead in the 3-match ODI series. Batting first, India posted a competitive score of 265/8. Following this total, South Africa were bowled out for just 122 in 37.4 overs and lost by 143 runs.

Chasing a target of 266 runs, Ranuka Singh gave South Africa a shock in the first over. Captain Laura Woolworth (4) took a wicket. Deepti Sharma and Pooja Vastrakar then took the wickets of Tazmin Britts and Anneke Bosch respectively off the bowling. Due to this, South Africa lost 3 wickets for 33 in 10.1 overs.
