On one hand, CM Mamata Banerjee is calling on women to help the police to reduce the rising crime. On the other hand, a civilian police volunteer was allegedly sexually harassed by a sub-inspector at the Park Street police station in Kolkata. However, following the allegation, a departmental inquiry was initiated against the SI.

The alleged incident took place around 1:10 am on October 5, when the woman civilian volunteer was called by the accused SI to the fourth-floor toilet of the police station, an official said on Sunday. The accused officer allegedly molested her on the pretext of gifting her clothes for Durga Puja, the officer said. The woman told reporters that she had sent her complaint to the Kolkata police headquarters in Lalbazar as well as the DC South office after the officials at the Park Street police station refused to accept her complaint.
