Maharashtra government has changed the format of government documents. After this, the mother’s name will need to be preserved in all government documents like AADHAR card, PAN card, school mark sheets and property related documents.

This decision will apply to everyone born on or after May 1, 2014. It will be implemented from May 1, 2024.

This means that people born after May 1, 2014 will have to follow the new format of their certificates and documents.

According to a Times of India report, according to the new format, after the name of the person for whom any government certificate is to be made, first the mother’s name, then the father’s name and finally the surname will be is written.

People born after May 1, 2014 will have to have the certificate made in the new format.
Everyone born after May 1, 2014 will have to make school changes, examination certificates, fee related documents and property related documents in this format.

Apart from this, the Maharashtra Government is also in talks with the Central Government regarding adding the mother’s name in the birth and death certificates.

Currently, no change has been made in the format of the certificate for married women. In married women’s surname, her husband’s name is written after the wife’s name.

Speaking about this decision, the Women and Child Development Department of Maharashtra has said that the father’s name is always written on any government document. By having a mother’s name on these documents, women will have equal status and respect in society.
