Eleven months after the violence in Manipur, the Election Commission is gearing up for the challenging task of conducting Lok Sabha elections in the state. Chief Electoral Officer Pradeep Kumar Jha said that more than 24,500 IDPs have been identified as voters to vote in the upcoming elections. Special arrangements were made to provide assistance to voters living in relief camps.

Preparations for the Lok Sabha elections continue in Manipur amid violence

A total of 2,955 polling booths will be set up in Manipur for the Lok Sabha elections. 94 special polling stations are also created to provide voting facilities to the displaced persons. Pradeep Kumar Jha said, “Special teams have been formed to conduct voting in the state. We have also started a voter awareness activity. After the violence in Manipur, there is disappointment and negativity among some people. In such a situation, these activities will help displaced people. This has been prepared keeping in mind the sentiments.”

So far 219 people have died in the violence that has been ongoing since May 3 last year. About 50,000 people were displaced from their homes due to this violence. Today they live in aid camps. Let us tell you that Lok Sabha elections in Manipur will be voted in two phases on April 19 and 26.

Demand to boycott elections

Many people are raising questions about the elections in the conflict-torn country. Some of them also demanded to boycott these elections. While sharing the data, Chief Electoral Officer Pradeep Kumar said there are more than 20 lakh voters in the state and the number of women voters is more than men.

When asked about the country’s preparations for the elections, Pradeep Kumar said, “More than 200 companies of paramilitary forces have been deployed in the country. According to him, security arrangements are being made throughout the country. Violence in the country There are security concerns in light of this, but these concerns are also being addressed.”

There are no party posters and leaders’ rallies before the vote in the country. There are only posters and collections put up by local electoral authorities urging citizens to exercise their franchise.
