Basirhat Loss of North 24 Parganas district seat in West Bengal is the biggest challenge for Trinamool Congress this time. The big reason is Sandeshkhali, which is in the headlines due to complaints of sexual harassment of women and land grabbing. Trinamool leaders Shahjahan Sheikh, Sibu Hazra and Uttam Sardar are the main accused in this case. Because of this, Trinamool leaders avoid campaigning here. There are not even Trinamool banners and posters here. The election depends on the local leaders, who go door to door to apologise.

Haldhar Aadi, leader of Trinamool Sandeshkhali Bedmajjur Panchayat, says, ‘We have to apologize for the atrocities committed by some of the party leaders for a long time. There is panic among the people. We assure them that if Trinamool wins, it will not keep the three accused leaders on. Bloc Election Committee member Prosenjit Ganguly says, we are telling people that the three accused are from the Left Front era. They are not originally from Trinamool and never will be in future as well.

Trinamool breaks ticket from MP Nusrat Jahan, Islam field
Trinamool has formed two separate election committees in two blocks of Sandeshkhali to conduct the elections. Local MLA Sukumar Mahato handles them.

Actress Nusrat Jahan had won from here on a Trinamool ticket in 2019, but her attitude during the Sandeshkhali incident discredited the party. So, Mamata Banerjee has canceled Nusrat’s ticket and given the ticket to former MP Haji Noorul Islam. Islam had won from this seat in 2009. On the other hand, the BJP has fielded Sandeshkhali victim Rekha Patra from this seat.

No matter how much Trinamool leaders apologize, people will not forgive: BJP
BJP leaders are going door to door in Sandeshkhali and telling about the misdeeds of the three accused Trinamool leaders. Local leader Vikas Singh says – No matter how much Trinamool apologizes, people will never forgive. Let us tell you that the BJP is vigorously raising the issue of Sandeshkhali in the entire state. Prime Minister Narendra Modi raised this issue in his four public meetings.
