Pundri Assembly seat in Haryana is one such seat where only an independent candidate has won in the last 6 assembly elections. Pundri is also included in the state’s 17 reserved seats. If we look at the figures, from the assembly elections 1996 to 2019, neither the BJP nor the Congress.

.

While in other seats, before the elections, a battle for tickets begins between the leaders of the political parties and if tickets are not accepted, the period of resignations and party changes begins. At the same time, leaders in Pundri refrain from joining any political party and contesting elections.

This time, BJP has given ticket to Satpal Jamba and Congress has given ticket to Sultan Jadula, although both of them have a good hold in the area, but despite this, this time also it seems that by independent candidate Satbir Bhana the upper hand.

Pundri is a road dominated assembly. According to experts, Road community has dominance in Pundri Assembly. Here 60 percent voters are from Road community and after that around 17 percent voters are from Brahmin community. Jats are also around 7 percent here and others include OBC and SC categories.

This time there are 6 candidates from Road, 3 are Brahmins. This time there are a total of 6 candidates for this seat from Road community only. These include former MLA Randhir Singh Golan, former MLA Sultan Jadula, Sunita Batan, Naresh Kumar Faral, Pramod Chuhad and Satpal Jamba. Sajjan Singh Dhul from the Jat community is contesting as an independent candidate. Naresh Sharma, Narendra Sharma and Dinesh Kaushik are in the electoral fray from the Brahmin community.

Due to the presence of more candidates from the Road community, the votes of the Road community may be split, which will directly benefit Satbir Bhana, an independent candidate from the Jangda community. Only Satbir Bhana seems to be competing with BJP and Congress in this election.

Talking about voters from other castes, Dhul from Jat community may get votes and Gurinder Singh Habdi from Punjabi community may get them, but due to low population, they will not be able to make much impact. On the other hand, three candidates are also standing from the Brahmin community, and their votes could be divided among themselves due to that.

Golan faces anti-incumbency Randhir Singh Golan had won from this seat in 2019. Here he faced Satbir Bhana of Congress, however, Golan secured a total of 41008 votes and defeated Bhana by 12824 votes. Golan had supported the BJP government after it won, but just before the Lok Sabha elections, Golan withdrew his support from the BJP government.

Golan has been an MLA from this seat but in this election he is facing an anti-majority, and returning this time seems difficult because of that.

BJP has not been able to open an account on this seat Pundri is a seat where the BJP has not been able to win so far. However, the Congress has won this seat four times. Along with this, in 1987, Makhan Singh of Lok Dal had also won this seat. In the last elections, the Congress itself had given competition to Golan. However, this time Golan had withdrawn BJP’s support in the hope that the Congress would give him the ticket. But the Congress did not give him the ticket, because he is contesting as an independent candidate.
