Former Kerala Finance Minister TM Thomas Isaac got relief from the Kerala High Court in the Masala Bond case. In this case, the court ordered the enforcement directorate not to summon Yitzhak during the election period. Isaac is contesting the Lok Sabha elections and has filed a petition in the High Court against the ED action in this case.

Some matters need to be settled – at the High Court

When examining the documents submitted by the Enforcement Directorate, the court said that Yitzhak would have to settle certain issues. The court fixed a hearing on May 22 on the petitions filed by ISAC and the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund (KIIFB) regarding the investigation of the case by the Enforcement Directorate.

ED has issued summons

Earlier on April 22, Isaac approached the court regarding the summons to the ED but the court rejected the petition. As soon as the former finance minister received the new summons, he filed a petition with the court. The Enforcement Directorate has issued a summons for investigation in a FEMA (Foreign Exchange Management Act) case related to the investigation of alleged violations in KIIFB’s financial transactions during his tenure as Finance Minister.

These claims were raised during the discussion

During the hearing of the petition filed by TM Thomas Isaac and a KIIFB official, it was argued that only personal information was sought by the ED through the summons and the same was sought to be quashed. The new summons to the former Kerala minister was issued under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA).

Let us tell you that KIIFB is the main agency of the state government for financing large and important infrastructure projects. It raised Rs 2,150 crore in 2019 through its first masala bond as part of its plan to raise Rs 50,000 crore to finance major and critical infrastructure projects in the south.
