Siddaramaiah was speaking at a program organized by the Backward Class Hostel Alumni Association in Mysuru. During this he said, ‘We need to change the system we come from. We are trying to bring about this change. Our government conducted a social census to identify and uplift the downtrodden sections of society. I lost power (in 2018) and it was not implemented. The Prime Minister said that we recently received the report. I will place it before the Cabinet and implement it.

During this, he said that the caste chief has been the principle of the Congress party for a long time. “Since 1930, caste-based data has not been collected as part of the national census,” he said. Now, the debate on conducting the population census is gaining momentum in many countries.

On February 29, Karnataka State Backward Classes Committee Chairman K. Jayaprakash Hegde submitted the long-awaited Socio-Economic and Education Survey Report, known as the Census Report, to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The report met with objections from some quarters In society and even in the ruling Congress.

Prime Minister Siddaramaiah also discussed the importance of education during his speech. During this, he said that real education should promote scientific thinking and responsible people. Sidramaiah called on the hostel graduates to give back to society, who benefited from government programs. He said, ‘Many of you have achieved success in your fields. Now, it’s time to extend your support to those in need. Helping the weaker sections of society is the right way to repay our debt to society.

Siddaramaiah also warned the graduates against the dangers of selfishness. He said that ‘people who think only of their family become self-centered. This mentality contributed to the increase in the number of nursing homes. We all need to work together to bring about positive change in our society.

Referring to the student hostels that started in 1977, Siddaramaiah said that this was a step that played an important role in educating students from backward classes. He said that today 187,000 students live in these hostels. The efforts of the hostels ensured that children from disadvantaged backgrounds had access to education.
