Congress vs BJP in Kanyakumari

Kanyakumari Lok Sabha constituency in Tamil Nadu is famous as the most remote district of South India, but these days this district is full of election activities. The Bharatiya Janata Party has announced its candidate from Kanyakumari. BJP recently released the first list from Tamil Nadu. The party had announced the names of 9 candidates on this list. With these names, BJP has also fielded its candidate in Kanyakumari. BJP has once again given ticket to P. Radhakrishnan from here. BJP is hopeful of victory from here once again.

P.Radhakrishnan is a big face of the BJP in Kanyakumari. Ever since the Lok Sabha elections were held in Kanyakumari after ending in 2008, P. Radhakrishnan has been the BJP candidate here. In the last three elections, he had also won once in the Lok Sabha elections in the year 2014. This year he had secured 3.72 lakh votes. He got a share of 37.62 percent of the total votes. Compared to the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, the party had 4.38 percent of votes.

Contest between Congress and BJP in Kanyakumari

Kanyakumari is the key Lok Sabha constituency in the contest between the Congress and the BJP. However, in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, DMK MP Helen Davidson had won from here. This year also BJP was the second party here. While in the 2014 elections, the Congress had slipped to second place. However, in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, H Vasanthakumar of the Congress had won here by a large margin. He got 627,235 votes. He won this seat with a share of 59.77 votes. P. Radhakrishnan of the BJP came second.

Kanyakumari is a relatively new Lok Sabha seat. This area is famous in many ways. His name has been used extensively in many films and songs. This is a famous tourist area. The idiom from Kashmir to Kanyakumari is quite popular. A large number of tourists come here to see the moments of sunrise and sunset. But apart from all this, the Devi temple here gives dignity to Hindu beliefs.

Highest number of Christian voters in Kanyakumari

The first Lok Sabha elections were held here in 2009. This is a general category seat. This Lok Sabha constituency is entirely inside Kanyakumari district. The literacy rate of this area is more than 82.8 percent. Compared to other Lok Sabha constituencies in the state, the number of Christian voters here is highest. There are around 47 Christians here while the number of Muslim voters is 4.2 per cent. If we talk about the number of Scheduled Caste voters, their number is 4 percent.

Kanyakumari is an urban Lok Sabha constituency. More than 83 percent people live in cities here, their number is more than 13 lakh. Although the number of rural voters is only 17 percent. The literacy rate here is 83 percent. In the 2019 general elections, 14,93,509 voters were registered here. This year, voting was recorded at 69.5 per cent in a total of 1704 centres.

There are six assembly seats in the Kanyakumari Lok Sabha constituency. For example Kanyakumari, Nagercoil, Colachel, Padmanabhapuram, Vilavancode and Killiyur. According to the 2021 assembly election results, Congress won in Killiyur, Vilavancode and Colachel, BJP in Nagercoil and AIADMK in Kanyakumari, while DMK won MLA in Padmanabhapuram.
