Ms Rowling, who has previously given £1 million to the party, said: “As long as Labor remains dismissive and often abusive towards women fighting to keep the rights their forefathers think they are won for good, I will find it hard to support them.

“The women who wouldn’t squeak (be quiet) didn’t leave Labour. Labor abandoned them.”

He continued: “I have been a Labor voter, member (not anymore), donor (not recently) and campaigner (ditto) all my adult life.

“I want to see an end to this long stretch of chaotic and often disastrous Tory rule. I want to vote Labour.”

Ms Rowling’s comments come after Sir Keir appeared to change his position on transgender rights during a televised debate.

Last year, the Labor leader said that “99.9% of women” don’t have a penis and in 2021 he said it was “not right” for Labor MP Rosie Duffield to say that “only women have cervixes”.

However, appearing on the BBC’s Question Time on Thursday evening, he said he agreed with former Labor leader Sir Tony Blair’s position on the matter, saying “biologically, a woman has a sheath and a man has a penis”.

Asked about his previous comments on Ms Duffield, he said the debate at the time had become “very toxic, very divided, very hard line”.

In her article in the Times, Rowling said: “The impression given by Starmer in Thursday’s debate was that there had been something unkind, something poisonous, something hard in Rosie’s words, even though the words sounded almost identical’ n completely reasonable when it was spoken by Tony Blair. ”

She added: “For left-wing women like us, this is not, and never has been, about trans people enjoying the rights of every other citizen and being free to present and identify however they wish.

“This is about the right of women and girls to demand their boundaries. It is about freedom of opinion and visible truth.”

Asked about her criticisms on the campaign trail, Sir Keir told reporters in south London: “I’m very proud of Labour’s long history of making real progress on women’s rights, passing landmark legislation that has changed millions of lives.

“Now that battle is never over and we need to make further progress, which we will hope to do if we gain the trust and confidence of the voters in the General Election.

“As we do that, I am also determined that one of the changes we will make if we win the election is to reset politics, to make sure that as we make progress, we does it in a context that brings people. together, and every dialogue, every debate, is always conducted with respect for the opinions of everyone involved in that progress and in that discussion.”

Ms Rowling took X, sharing a Guardian article quoting Sir Keir.

“Labour gives the same energy as a man who has been knocking a woman out of his job but thinks his wife should be cool about it because he’s always put the bins out,” he tweeted. .

Earlier this month, an internet troll who posted messages online threatening to kill Ms Rowling and Ms Duffield received suspended prison sentences.

Glenn Mullen, 31, of Clyde Road, Manchester, admitted uploading audio clips in Gaelic threatening to kill Ms Rowling “with a big hammer” and said he was “going to see Rosie Duffield at the bar with a big gun”, Magistrates San Steffan The court heard.
