The Jharkhand High Court on Monday refused to entertain the state government’s plea challenging an earlier order of a single judge. In this framework, instructions were given to announce the dates of the municipal elections in the country.
In fact, a division bench of Chief Justice MM Chandrashekhar and Justice Navnet Kumar was hearing an appeal against an earlier order of Justice Anand Sen, which directed the state to hold civic elections and announce the dates within three weeks.
Allow us to inform you that the last civil elections were held in April 2018 and the tenure of the council members ended in 2023. Justice Sen passed the order on January 4 after hearing a writ petition filed by former ward councilors Roshni Khalko, Vinod Singh, Sunil Yadav and Arun Jha – over the delay in holding the municipal corporation elections.
Aggrieved by the single judge’s order, the state government appealed before the division bench, which refused to interfere with the earlier order.
