Today I will tell you about the fifth Lok Sabha election. The Congress had been in power in the country for almost two decades. After 15 years of challenge, Congress roots had become strong in Jharkhand in the last general elections itself. Jaipal Singh’s Jharkhand Party had merged with the Congress, and many big leaders had also joined it. Indira Gandhi’s poverty alleviation campaign peaked in the 1971 elections.

The party won 11 out of 13 seats in Jharkhand.
