Authorities in Indiana said Sunday that at least one person was killed and five others were injured after a shooting that erupted at an Indianapolis bar, as police recovered the firearm from the parking lot, ABC7 reported.
Also among those injured was an off-duty uniformed police officer, authorities said.
Indianapolis Metro Police officials told the media that around 1:30 a.m., two officers — who were in uniform but off-duty — were at the bar when there was a disturbance in the parking lot.
Officers said police exchanged gunfire with the suspect and one of the officers was hit and was later taken to a local hospital and is expected to be OK.
His condition is said to be stable and he will be released from hospital soon.
The police also said that the other four who were injured are also in good condition and are likely to recover from their injuries.
Shortly after the shooting in Indiana, a person – with gunshot wounds – came to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries but died. According to the police, the deceased was believed to be involved in the latest gun violence.
Separately, a shooting on Chicago’s South Side injured at least five people including a newborn baby.
According to authorities in Chicago, a vehicle with four adults was struck and fired at around 12:14 pm in the 7900 block of South Wood Street.
The police have begun an investigation and no arrests have yet been made.
