The Indian Coast Guard rescued the lives of 27 Bangladeshi fishermen stranded at sea and transferred them to Bangladesh on Friday. The Indian Coast Guard first tried to repair their boat, but when the boat could not be repaired, they evacuated everyone safely. An official at the Indian Coast Guard’s regional headquarters in Kolkata said the Coast Guard’s motto is Vyam Raksham (We Protect), which we have proved.
The boat’s equipment was lost at sea.
In a swift action, the Indian Coast Guard (IGC) rescued 27 Bangladeshi fishermen stranded on their fishing boat at sea on Thursday night, an Indian Coast Guard official said. At around 11:30 pm, the Indian Coast Guard ship Amogh, while patrolling the India-Bangladesh International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL), saw a Bangladeshi fishing boat (BFB) Sagar II drifting in Indian waters. The ICG ship sent a boarding team to investigate. During the investigation it was found that the steering wheel of the boat was damaged in the last two days and since then it has been wandering, due to which the boat entered Indian waters. BFB had 27 crew/fishermen on board.
If you fail, try to drag yourself
The Indian Coast Guard’s technical team tried to identify and repair the fault but found that the boat’s hull was completely damaged and could not be repaired at sea, the official said. The sea and weather conditions were favorable, so it was decided to bring the boat in distress to India-Bangladesh IMBL. She was then handed over to Bangladesh under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Indian Coast Guard and the Bangladesh Coast Guard.
