GUWAHATI: The counting of votes polled in 543 constituencies in India for the Lok Sabha elections began at 8 am today, June 4.
According to the current trends, significant gains have been made by the opposition India Bloc crossing the 200 seat milestone compared to 2019 figures, it seems that the NDA is still coming back to power, having already crossed the majority mark.
The Surat seat in Gujarat has already been won by the BJP uncontested after the nomination papers of the Congress candidate were rejected and the other candidates disqualified.
Among the key constituencies is Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi aims for a third consecutive term as MP for the seat.
Whether the National Democratic Alliance, led by the BJP, will see a return to power or whether the opposition India Bloc will defy the exit poll predictions is the question.
BJP leads in 232 seats, while INC in 99, Samajwadi Party (SP) in 36, and All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) in 22, as at 10:50 am, June 4.

BJP candidate and Union minister Ajay Mishra trailed Samajwadi Party leader Utkarsh Verma in UP’s Kheri by 4,730 votes, according to EC. India alliance is giving tough competition to NDA in the country. BJP’s Mahesh Sharma was leading with 26,176 votes in Uttar Pradesh’s Gautam Budha Nagar Lok Sabha seat after the first round of counting on Tuesday, according to the local election office. Indian Bloc’s Mahendra Nagar is second with 7,917 votes, BSP’s Rajendra Solanki is third with 6,233 votes and NOTA is fourth with 265 votes.
Kerala: Rajeev Chandrasekhar leads in Thiruvananthapuram
BJP leader and EU Minister for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar is leading in the Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha constituency over his nearest rival Shashi Tharoor of INC. He currently leads by more than 4,900 votes.
