Due to flooding of fields in Kamin-Kashir and Kovel districts, farmers cannot start sowing on time. Yury Yurchenko, head of the Regional Department of Agro-Industrial Development, told Suspilno about this, writes agronews.ua.
Despite this, the official said, more than 2,000 hectares of spring cereals, including wheat, barley and oats, have already been sown in Volyn.
According to Yury Yurchenko, there is less flooding on agricultural land this spring than last year. At the moment, a little more than 9 thousand hectares remain under water.
“After the water recedes, those areas will also be sown,” said the head of the regional department for agro-industrial development. – Autumn cereals, winter cereals and rapeseed were fertilized.”
Yuriy Yurchenko added that a decrease in corn crops is predicted in the region. Instead, soybeans and sugar beets will take its place in the fields.
According to the regional department of agro-industrial development, in March there are 600 farms, 52 thousand personal peasant farms and more than a hundred large farms in Volyn.
