Ponch, March 19: Fourteen people, including six girl and seven boy students, were injured when an “overloaded” eco-vehicle skidded off the road and rolled into this hilly district.
The accident took place at Mendar Poonch in Kheri Kangra area, when the driver of an Eco Van (JK12C-O613) lost control and the vehicle fell several feet into the cliff, injuring 14 people – six of them women and eight men.
The injured, 13 minors and one chief, were immediately taken to a local hospital by rescue workers, including local volunteers and police. BMO Mendhar Dr PA Khan confirmed to GNS that 14 injured persons have been admitted in sub-district hospital. He said two of them were shifted to GMC Rajouri for advanced treatment.
The injured were identified as Mishba Qusar (16), Fahim Qusar (15), Zahira (20), Qasid Rasheed (15), Adid Hussain (16), Denmark Shah (17), Rukhsana (15), Muskan Basharat (14). . ) Uzma Qusar (16), Mujtab Shah (20), Hasan Ali Shah (16), Ases Ahmed (16), Mohammad Laiqat and Mohammad Zamran (25), all residents of Riya.
A police official said a case has been registered and further investigation has been initiated.
Meanwhile, the local residents have accused the traffic police for the accident in the area as they failed to check the congestion of vehicles. He urged the higher authorities to look into the matter and take care to avoid vehicular congestion. (GNS)
