Scott Morrison’s farewell dinner at The Shire has been announced and then quietly cancelled, in a poignant tribute to the former Prime Minister’s reputation for not really getting through anything.
Organizers of the event said they wanted to create a stimulus for Morrison that captured the essence of his time in office. “When we thought back to what he had achieved as Prime Minister, we thought of nothing at all. And that’s when we knew we’d hit the perfect farewell,” said one of the organizers. “What better way to honor the man than to let go that has been elaborately announced but not actually implemented?”
The organizers went to the trouble of printing invitations, engaging event consultants and organizing public relations for the event. “We wasted a lot of money; we wanted it to be authentic”.
The event received RSVPs from five former cabinet ministers, all of whom were Scott Morrison.
