The UN Security Council passed a resolution for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
On Monday, the United States avoided vetoing the agreement, reversing its previous position on a resolution submitted to the Security Council. The resolution also demanded that all hostages be released immediately and unconditionally.
14 of the 15 member states of the Security Council voted in favor of the resolution, while the United States was absent.

The Lamati Council had repeatedly failed to agree on a ceasefire agreement since the war began in October.
America’s decision not to veto the resolution is a sign of the growing rift between it and its ally Israel over Israel’s aggression in Gaza.
