A student of Guwahati IIT was detained by the police in Hajo, Assam on March 23. The student was allegedly a supporter of the terrorist organization ISIS. He is a fourth year Biotechnology student. A black flag similar to that of a terrorist organization was found in the student’s room. The police are investigating the matter
The student had claimed in social media and emails that his desire was to join the terrorist organization ISIS. After this post, the student went missing from his campus in IIT Guwahati.
According to the police, the student from Delhi had written an open letter on LinkedIn explaining the reasons for his decision, following which a watch notice was issued against him. He was being searched. Meanwhile, he was caught at Hajo in Kamrup district, about 30 km from Guwahati. He has been detained for questioning.
The official further said that when the IIT officials were contacted about the student, they informed that the student was missing since Saturday afternoon. His mobile phone was also switched off.
STF interrogates the detained student. His contacts are being traced.
A black flag like ISIS found in the student’s room
“The IIT Guwahati student who pledged allegiance to ISIS has been detained and further legal action will be taken,” Director General of Police GP Singh posted on Twitter.
Additional Superintendent of Police (STF) Kalyan Kumar Pathak said that after receiving an email, we have looked into it. The email was sent by the student himself. In this regard the student had claimed that he was going to join ISIS.
STF says the student was taken to his hostel after being taken into custody. A black flag similar to the ISIS flag and an Islamic script were found in his room.
The Indian ISIS Chief, Haris Farooqui, arrested an associate also captured
ISIS India Chief Harish Ajmal Farooqui and his associate were arrested by Assam STF on March 20 from Dharamshala area of Dhubri sector.
These two accused were also included in the wanted list by NIA. Farooqui lives in Chakrata, Dehradun. He is the head of ISIS in India. Along with this, STF also arrested Haris’ associate Anurag Singh alias Rehan.
Assam Police PRO Pranabjyoti Goswami said that information has been received about their arrival in India from Bangladesh border. The police were deployed on the International Border in Dharamshala area. The accused were found at 4.15 in the morning. After this he was arrested. Both have been taken to the STF office in Guwahati.
According to the police, Anurag Singh lives in Panipat. He has adopted the religion of Islam. His wife is a Bangladeshi citizen. Read the full news
