Hydro-Québec says it expects to fix the remaining power outages from this week’s blizzard by the end of the day.

The utility reported there were about 4,700 customers in Quebec without power as of 12:30 p.m., down from about 297,000 at the height of the storm on Thursday and 49,000 on Friday morning.

Hydro-Québec spokesman Louis Olivier Baty says some customers were without power for one to two days.

He said most of the remaining outages due to the storm are in the Laurentians region of Quebec, north of Montreal, where the power grid suffered more damage from downed branches and trees.

Hydro-Québec crews in some cases had to replace poles carrying power lines.

Baty says a flurry of smaller outages, each affecting between one and five customers, explains why it took Hydro-Québec crews so long to restore power to parts of the region.
