Sitting Hingoli MP Hemant Patil, whom the Shiv Sena replaced in Bhubaru Kadam Kohlikar as the party’s candidate for the Lok Sabha seat, said on Thursday that he should not have announced his candidature earlier. The Shiv Sena, led by the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Ekanth Shinde, on March 28 returned the candidacy of Patil Mahingoli, who will go to the elections in the second phase on April 26.
However, the party canceled his nomination on Wednesday night, apparently amid opposition from within the Mahayoti (Grand Alliance), which also includes the BJP and the Ajit Pawar-led NCP. Patil met and greeted Kadam on Thursday before speaking to reporters in Hingoli, part of the state’s Marathwada region. “My first feeling was that the party should not have announced my candidacy. But our senior leaders have their own challenges as a three-party coalition rules the country,” he said. “We have to accept it (change in candidacy). It feels bad but as a party worker, I will work and extend my help in the elections in Hingoli,” he added.
In the 2019 general elections, Patil won from Hingoli as the candidate of the undivided Shiv Sena, winning nearly 5.86 lakh votes.
Leader of the Opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Council Ambads Danav, who is with Shiv Sena (UBT) led by Uddhav Thackeray, clashed with Hemant Patil after the change in candidate in Hingoli. “Shind could not digest the respect he got from Matushree (Uddhav Thackeray’s home) and Shiv Sena. This is a result of BJP abandoning freedom and accepting slavery. His (Patil’s) nomination was changed due to BJP’s pressure,” Denav alleged in X .
“No one has ever dared to pressure Uddhav Thackeray like this. Lok Sabha (elections) is just a trailer. Your ‘Dilishwar’ (Delhi-based leaders) will present the entire film in the state assembly polls,” added Danav.
