At least 20 people were killed and more than 450 injured after a second set of Hezbollah communications devices exploded in southern Lebanon on Wednesday, September 19.

The explosions occurred following similar explosions by Hezbollah’s pagers the previous day, raising fears of a possible escalation in the conflict with Israel, according to reports.
This event marked the deadliest day in the country since tensions between the borders with Israel increased about a year ago. The death toll from Tuesday’s blasts rose to 12, including two children, and nearly 3,000 people have been injured so far.
While Israeli officials have remained silent on the incident, security sources claim that Israel’s intelligence agency, the Mossad, was responsible for the explosions. An official in Hezbollah called the operation the biggest security breach in the organization’s history, causing chaos in its ranks.
The explosions occurred alongside Israel’s ongoing 11-month war in Gaza, raising fears of a wider conflict along Israel’s northern border with Lebanon. Defense Minister Yoav Galant hinted at further escalation, saying: "We are opening a new phase in the war. It requires courage, determination and perseverance from us."
Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi criticized Israel, accusing it of pushing the Middle East towards a regional war with its multiple escalations.
The US denied any involvement in the explosions, but an American official revealed that Israel had informed Washington of an expected operation in Lebanon, although it did not provide specific details. The operation itself surprised US officials.
The situation continues to heighten tensions across the region, raising fears of a wider war.
