In the Mahasamund Lok Sabha, BJP’s Ravapkumari Chaudhary defeated former Home Minister Tamradhwaj Sahu by 1 lakh 45 thousand 456 votes. The BJP candidates were already ahead from the first phase of counting. After the victory he said that there are great leaders in front of me besides the people

.

While BJP’s Shroop Kumari got 7 lakh 3,000 659 votes, Congress’ Tamarwaj Sahu got 5 lakh 58 thousand 203 votes. The remaining 15 candidates could not even save their deposits. There was resentment among the local leaders over the contest of the outside candidate Tamradhwaj Sahu in the Hasmond.

The reason for BJP’s victory

Mahatari Vandan Yojana is also seen as the biggest reason behind 10 out of 11 Lok Sabha seats of Chhattisgarh including Mahasmond Lok Sabha going to BJP. BJP led from Mahasmond, Basana, Saripali, Khalari, Rajim, Kurud, Dhamtari, Gariband.

The reason for the defeat of the Congress

The biggest reason for Congress defeat is wrong choice of candidates. As soon as Tamarwaj Sahu’s name was announced, the local Congress leaders started rejecting the party’s decision outright. But the leaders thought it better to remain silent rather than protest openly, lest the rod of discipline be used.

From the beginning, the Congress leaders started saying in hushed tones that an outside (ranked) candidate was being imposed. The consequences of this were seen in this election. Senior Congress leaders left the party and joined the BJP. While in the party, the leaders and workers completed the task by sitting quietly instead of working in the elections. In these elections, lack of mutual coordination between Congress leaders and workers was the main reason for losing the elections.

Most of the opposition to Tamardwaj Sahu took place in the Dhamtari assembly, Kurod and Rajim. Supporters and workers of Dhanendra Sahu reached Raipur Rajiv Bhavan to register their protest. But they were ignored. This is also considered as the reason for the defeat of the Congress.

The Congress tried to woo the Sahu community to get the Mahasmond Lok Sabha seat, but the party’s plans were thwarted. Whereas Mahasmond, Dhamtari, Kurod and Rajim are considered strongholds of the Sahu community. From where the BJP candidate Roopkumari Chaudhary got the maximum lead.

If local leaders had been given tickets, the outcome of the election would have been different. Because all the workers and party officials who distanced themselves from these elections were openly immigrants and also workers. While the Home Minister in the Congress government, Tamradhwaj Sahu could not do anything special for the Sahu community.
