Workers have not become regular in 10 years
He said that in its 2014 manifesto, the government had talked about strengthening the municipality’s sanitation and sewerage workers, apart from ending the contract system and regular recruitment of sewage workers in sanitation. But in 10 years no regular recruitment has been done by the government for these workers. In February 2024, the Minister for Local Urban Bodies had ensured that the contract workers employed earlier would be regularized through the recruitment process, but this decision has not yet been implemented either. Because of this there is anger among the workers towards the government.

Layoffs in Gurugram
The protesting workers said that 3480 workers would be retrenched in Gurugram in 2023, but in 2019, there was talk of regularization of 946 workers. All 3480 workers were working on a contract between 2019 and 2023, but the government canceled it.
