New Delhi: Haryana Congress President Bhupinder Hooda met Congress Interim President Sonia Gandhi in Delhi on Friday. The meeting is being held ahead of the Congress President election.
Giving insights into the meeting, Hooda said, “In today’s meeting we talked about the party and how to strengthen it. He said that the Congress president has a neutral stance on the election.
The election for the new president of the party is scheduled to be held on October 17 in all PCCs and the results will be declared on October 19 immediately after the counting of votes. According to this notification, the filing of nominations for the post of President will be held from September 24 to September 30.
Meanwhile, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Khelat on Friday confirmed his candidature for the upcoming Congress president election and said Rahul Gandhi had made it clear that “no one from the Gandhi family” would become the next party chief.

Speaking to the media, Gehlat, who has come to Kerala to participate in the Bharat Jodo Yatra, said, “I told earlier that I will ask Rahul Gandhi to accept this position when all the Congress committees pass a resolution in this regard. . He made it clear that no one from the Gandhi family would become the next chief minister. He said that he had taken this decision due to some reasons and that a non-member of the Gandhi family would become the party leader.
Also, Rahul Gandhi on Thursday insisted on the principle of “one person, one post” in the party and said he was confident that the party’s commitment to the Udaipur Declaration would be maintained in elections for the party’s top post.
Party MP Shashi Tharoor also hinted at contesting the polls and met Sonia Gandhi on Monday. He met Congress Central Election Commission Chairman Madhusudan Mistry on Wednesday.
There are speculations that former union minister Manish Tiwari is also contesting for the post of Congress party president.
