Adrenaline junkies in Halifax now have a new outlet.

Atlantic Shark Expeditions launched a new shark cage experience that gives brave attendees the chance to get up close and personal with the oceans’ most feared predators.

“When people come out on this expedition they’ll have a chance to go on a really cool trip, see some of the good sights off the Halifax waterfront, we’ll go where our captain decides, and we’ll puts our custom shark cage into the water,” said Neil Hammerschlag, president of Atlantic Shark Expeditions.

“People go into this cage, they have an amazing experience, they get close to the animals and [they’re] is safe.”

Hammerschlag says that people who are part of the experience also help to better understand and protect the many species of sharks that can be found in our own waters.

Atlantic Shark Expeditions operated off the south shore last summer, but the move to Halifax gives them a number of advantages.

Hammerschlag says every species of shark in our waters plays an important role in the ocean ecosystem.

“We know from previous research, including my own research, that when sharks are fished you can have this imbalance in the ocean, this effect that can have unexpected and sometimes negative consequences.”

“I don’t think people should be afraid of sharks, they should be aware of them, so we hope to educate people that sharks are not out there to get them, rather that sharks have a lot more to them” w afraid of people. we make them.”
