The attackers stole cash and a mobile phone from Maiaz Ali near the Vishwaratna Hotel, and carried guns which they used to threaten the victim.

According to witnesses, the robbers tried to steal Ali’s e-rickshaw but failed. While escaping, they opened fire, although no injuries were reported.

Ali, who was dropping off passengers at the Guwahati railway station, stated that two men entered his car. During the return trip they pulled out guns and demanded cash and his mobile phone.

As people nearby tried to help, the attackers fired a warning shot before fleeing.

Ali later filed a formal complaint at Pan Bazar police station.

Speaking to GPlus, an official from Pan Bazar police station confirmed the incident. The investigation is ongoing and more details are awaited.
