Who got how many seats in which part of Gujarat in 2017?
There are a total of 182 assembly seats in Gujarat. 92 seats are required for majority. In the 2017 assembly elections, BJP won 99 seats and Congress won 77 seats. Six seats went to independents and others. Region wise the state has 68 seats in Central Gujarat, 54 in Saurashtra and Kutch, 32 in North Gujarat and 28 in South Gujarat.
BJP won 40 out of 68 seats in Central Gujarat. Congress got 24 seats. At the same time, four seats were lost on account of others. In other words, the BJP gained a large lead in central Gujarat. Congress fared better than BJP in Kutch-Saurashtra region. Congress won 30 out of 54 seats in the region. At the same time 23 seats went to BJP. One seat went to the account of another.
In North Gujarat, there was a tough competition between the BJP and the Congress. 17 out of 32 seats in this region went to the Congress. At the same time BJP won 14 seats. Congress-backed independent candidate Jignesh Mevani won one seat. BJP registered a one-sided victory in South Gujarat. BJP won 22 out of 28 seats in this constituency. Remaining 6 seats went to Congress party.

In which area did BJP lead?
While the BJP led in central and southern Gujarat, the Congress fared better in the Saurashtra-Kutch region. But in Saurashtra’s largest district, Rajkot, the Congress did not get the victory it had hoped for. BJP won 6 out of eight seats in the district. Congress fared better than BJP in North Gujarat. Congress has won 3 seats more than BJP in this region. At the same time, a Congress-backed independent won one seat. Central Gujarat is the largest region of Gujarat in terms of locations. Districts like Ahmedabad and Vadodara, which are considered BJP strongholds, fall in this region. BJP won 40 out of 68 seats in this region. At the same time, only 22 out of the total 28 seats in South Gujarat went to the BJP. Congress was weak in this area. BJP was able to come back to power only because of its victory in South Gujarat and big districts like Ahmedabad and Vadodara.

In how many districts is BJP leading and in how many districts is Congress leading?
There are total 33 districts in Gujarat. Among these districts, Ahmedabad has maximum 21 seats, Surat 16 seats and Vadodara 10 seats. In these three major districts, the BJP secured a one-sided victory. BJP won 15 out of 21 seats in Ahmedabad, 15 out of 16 in Surat and 8 out of 10 in Vadodara. With this, BJP won 38 seats in only these 3 districts out of 33 districts.
Including Banaskantha with nine seats and Rajkot with eight seats, the BJP has won 47 seats in the five districts with the highest number of seats. The Congress managed to win only 16 of the total 64 seats in these constituencies. BJP won maximum 13 out of total 33 districts. At the same time Congress won more seats than BJP in 15 districts. There were five districts where the seats of both parties were equal.

Is there any district where neither BJP nor Congress got a single seat?

In many districts the accounts of both the parties are not even opened. BJP could not even open an account in a total of seven districts. It includes the districts of Amreli, Narmada, Tangs, Dabi, Aravalli, Morbi and Gir Somnath. At the same time, there were two districts where the Congress could not open its account in 2017. It includes Panch Mahal and Porbandar district.
