Australian Guardian has quietly changed editorial leadership, adding to long-standing speculation about editor Lenore Taylor’s succession plans.

Former deputy editor David Munk has moved into the role of senior managing editor, with the previous deputy editor’s post now shared between former national news editor Patrick Keneally and former associate audio and visual editor Gabrielle Jackson .

The changes came without external announcement, with Australian Guardian updated the editorial team page to reflect the changes, as well as some staff changing their LinkedIn profiles. After being contacted by Cricketa Australian Guardian A spokesperson confirmed the changes alongside a press release.

Former opinion editor Bridie Jabour has moved to replace Jackson as audio and visual liaison editor, while her previous deputy opinion editor, Svetlana Stankovic, is moving up to take up the mantle of opinion editor.

Former associate editor Julian Drape has been appointed deputy national news editor, while Sam Strutt has been appointed associate news editor (Queensland).

Josephine Tovey appears to be the final change in the reorganisation, with the former deputy news editor now in the role of national news editor.

Taylor has been with Australian Guardian since its establishment in 2013, joining as its first political editor, before ascending to editor in May 2016.

She said in the press release that she was “proud to appoint these wonderful and dedicated colleagues” to senior positions in the newsroom.

“Their skills and dedication will help ensure Australian Guardian continued growth and impact,” he said.

It comes after Karen Middleton replaced Katharine Murphy as political editor, a move that was first reported Cricket, after Murphy left to join Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s office. Middleton joined Australian Guardian from Schwartz Media’s The Saturday Paper, where he was chief political reporter.

Cricket understands that the town hall staff meeting scheduled for Tuesday has been cancelled.
